Beat the Winter Blues with These Fun Indoor Kid-Friendly Activities

Beat the Winter Blues with These Fun Indoor Kid-Friendly Activities

Winter is a dreaded season for a lot of different reasons. First, there's the dangerous winter road conditions. Second, there's the challenging task of keeping your children safely bundled up. And third, is the task of keeping your children from bouncing off the walls on days where it is just too cold to play outside.

Fortunately, you don't have to worry about how to prevent yourself from going stir crazy because you are trapped in the house during a winter storm. There are tons of fun indoor activities you and your children can enjoy together.

1. Indoor Ice Skating

For this activity you will need wax paper, rubber bands, and a safe space for your children to pay. All you have to do is wrap your child's shoes in wax paper and secure the paper using the rubber bands. Then, your children will be able to skate around the floor as if they were ice skating. This activity can be very slippery; so, be careful!

2. Indoor Blizzard

If it is too cold outside or you don't want to play with real snow, you can make your own snow if you have some coffee filters laying around the home! Just use some scissors to cut them into the shape of snowflakes and find a big white blanket to lay out on the floor or bed where you are going to play. Drop the snowflakes you made from the air so it feels like it is snowing. You can even ball the snowflakes you made up and throw them at each other to have a snowball fight!

3. Make Delicious Snowmen Treats

For this activity you will need jumbo marshmallows, pretzel sticks, and some icing squeeze tubes. All you have to do is place three jumbo marshmallows on the pretzel sticks. Then, you can let your child use the icing tubs to decorate their snowmen and give him or her a face. You can even use small pieces of pretzel sticks to give your snowmen hands and feet.

4. Board Games

Another great idea during the winter season is to crack open your gaming closet and brush the dust off those game boards. Ideally, you should find a time where everyone in your household can sit around the kitchen table and play the board games together. It will be a great bonding experience and it will keep your children entertained.

5. Keeping Them Active

One of the biggest concerns parents have during the winter months is keeping their children active as they watch their children watch TV while curled up under a warm blanket while the snow continues to fall outside. Fortunately, there are a lot of fun and easy activities and exercises you can try to keep them moving.

Have a Dance Party: Consider moving all of the furniture to clear a space in the middle of the room and turn the music up. Let your children march, stomp, twirl, hop, and scream. This is a great way to get some of that pent up energy out.

Hallway Races: Let your children race each other up and down the hallways. If you have a lot of children (or they have friends over), you could create teams and make a competition out of it. You can even get party streamers to put up at the end of the hall for them to bust through.

Bring the Outdoor Toys Inside: Does your toddler have a small slide outside in the yard? How about some riding toys? Maybe there's a hula hoop out there? Consider bringing some of the outdoor toys inside and letting your child play with them. As long as you move the furniture and clear a safe space, your children can enjoy these toys in the house just fine.

As you can see, there is no reason to let the winter blues get you down and your children down. There are lots of fun things they can do without having to go outside!Enter your text here ...
